On January 12, a series of earthquakes measuring 6.5 to 7.3 on the Richter scale devastated Haiti.
Grace Brethren International Missions in Partnership with Convoy of Hope and The American Red Cross is working on a plan to assist those affected by this disaster in Haiti and to the Haitian population here in the United States.
A plan of action is being written and will continue to be a very fluid document until we are able to understand both the short term and long-term needs of this crisis.
Our immediate response is to partner with Convoy of Hope.
We have already released $10,000 to purchase a container that is on its way to Haiti.
You can help through prayer and your gifts. For more information go to these links:

Dear GBC members,
Those of you who want to donate to the organization Katie and I
worked with in Haiti can donate to www.haitiCOCINA.org. I have a letter
following that is from the leader of the trip we took. It gives a little
more information on what the money will be used for. Also, attached
there is a report on the relief team that left from COCINA and it gives
a very good picture of the overwhelming needs. The clinic in Quanaminthe
normally is only a day clinic but they will begin operating as a 24hour
clinic for the influx of Haitians coming in requiring medical attention.
But they need supplies!!! Please send money, every dollar you donate
through this organization will go directly to the Haitains. No dollar
amount is too little or too big. Thank you so much in advance! May God
bless you all and thank you for your prayers.
By His Grace,
Kristi McClanahan
Haiti Report 1/17/2010
Picture this in your mind, the people live on 1-2 dollars a
day, there
is no infrastructure for roads, electricity, water, or
police. There is
a corrupt government that lives in an immaculate palace
that supports a
banking system centralized in Port au Prince, supports an
education
system that is absolutely pitiful and supports a government
consisting a
corrupt infested customs, police and government agencies.
The buildings
are made of non reinforced concrete. The streets are lined
with miles
and miles of concrete block walls 8 to 12 feet high.
Thousands and
thousand of vendors line those walls daily, selling their
goods to
passersby, having their backs against the wall.
On Tuesday 1-12-2010 at 4:52 p.m. the ground violently
shakes. Where we
were located in Quanaminthe 200 miles away by roads but
only 35 minutes
by air, the quake strength was estimated at 5, no buildings
fell and no
one was injured where we were located.. In Port au Prince
the Richter
strength was 100 times stronger at 7.5, all of the
buildings collapsed,
the street lined walls fell and over 100,000 people were
instantly
crushed to death and hundreds of thousands are still
missing, buried
alive under the rubble and trapped and injured. These
people are
waiting for help that in some situations might be
considered abundant
but on the scale relative to the destruction, is no where
near adequate.
The school and clinic we are affiliated with in Haiti is
sending the
meager supplies and medicine they have, to the severely
affected areas.
This of course overtaxes a ministry already operating on
extremely
limited funds. We hope to lead a team back to Ouanaminthe
February 1 or
2. Ours plans are to take money to buy more supplies
and medicine for
the clinic and to help cash checks for our school and
clinic employees.
Employees are paid by check but are unable to cash
them since the
entire banking system of Haiti is non-existent. We
hope to serve as
transport for supplies and funds for the school and the
clinic. Our
goal has always been to help the Haitians help the
Haitians.
You can make donations of money to the Winchester First
United Methodist
Church of Winchester, Tennessee. We will not accept
clothing, food or
medical supplies, the funds we take will be used to
purchase those in
the Dominican Republic. All of the money donated will go
directly to
Haiti; none will be taken out for administrative fees.
You can also
send money to the Coalition of Children Need Association,
our U.S.
headquarters. You can do this by logging in to,
www.haiticocina.org.
None of these funds as well will be diverted for
administrative fees.
All staff at every level in this organization are
volunteers. Received
funds will be delivered to the Haitians in Ouanaminthe and
used to care
for the people there.
We have truly appreciated the prayers and concern you have
demonstrated
during this tragic time. As many of you know, we have
a great love for
the gentle people of Haiti.
